GENTI TAVANXIU – “Draghi” Granit, h. 2m. 2011 The 6th China (Hui’an) International Carving Art Fair & International Stone Carving Competition

L’opera scolpita in granito grigio, nella sua conformazione evoca sia il dinamismo delle forme degli ideogrammi della scrittura cinese sia la forma di un grande litofono (strumento di percussione in pietra) che emette suoni cosmici che, secondo la cultura cinese, avevano un significato metafisico da cui si faceva derivare il delicato equilibrio fra il cielo e la terra. Nella realizzazione della scultura, l’artista, si è avvalso della collaborazione di assistenti cinesi, esperti nella lavorazione a fuoco che permette di raggiungere alte temperature che fondono il granito e lo trasformano in lava incandescente.

This piece, carved in grey granite, in its complexity evokes the dynamism of the shapes of Chinese calligraphy ideograms as well as the shapes of a large litophone (percussion instrument made of stone) emitting sounds that according to Chinese culture had a metaphysic significance from which has derived the delicate equilibrium between the earth and the sky. In the realization of the work, the artist was aided by the Chinese craftsmen, experts in working with fire on granite which allows it to reach high temperatures that melt it and transform it in incandescent lava.
